Ranches

Taita Community Ranches
The ranches are made of Taita, Mugeno, Mbale, Lwalenyi, Muramba, Oza Kishushe and Sagalla. Sagalla Zone is divided into Teri “A” and Teri “B” group ranch. Teri “A” is where people have been entitled to live in and Teri “B” is a temporarily land preserved for grazing and natural resources. The flat land is located as Teri “B” group ranch which is in an-arid environment with a lack of adequate rainfall for crops. The habitat is dense commiphora and Acacia woodland forest where wildlife and birds can be easily seen. For many years, the local people cut down trees to make charcoal in order to survive, including livestock bomas which has resulted to grassland in the most part of the ecosystem. Wildlife in the Taita ranches is very much the same as that in the two parks. The recent establishment of wildlife sanctuaries and tented camps within the ranches provides a perfect opportunity for those who see quality out of life to tour one of the most pristine ecosystems in Africa. Apart from the ‘Big Five’, plains game such as the Grant gazelle and the Cheetah are still exist in abundance.
